The Blog
University-Scholar officially started on February 17, 2008 when I published my first post. Ya, it was not much, but I had my name on the Internet and a place to call my own. My initial purpose for starting the blog was to make money. I didn’t want to work at a retail store or the local coffee cafe. Unfortunately, I have never made much from the site. I continued to write posts here and there, acting like I really cared, but I never put much effort into writing posts. Now I am much more excited about writing, because I know why I am doing it. Within the past few weeks I have been thinking a lot about graduate school, and it has really got me going. I now want to share my college experience with other people.
This blog is about college, mostly academics. (Considering it is written by someone who is obsessed with academics.) I try to give advice by sharing my experience. Much of what I write about is opinionated, and by no means are my experience going to be the same as every other student’s.
If you are new to my blog, I would hope you will subscribe to it and participate in the discussions.
The Blogger

My name is Michael Francis and I am currently a Junior at Indiana University Southeast studying to receive a B.S. in Mathematics. I have switched my majors about three times now. Starting as a English and History major I switched to History and Economics, and eventually I dropped the double major and am getting a mathematics degree.
Now that I have finally settled in with a major my eyes are on grad school. And guess what, I do not plan on going to grad school for mathematics. I actually intend to get into a Computer Science program, more specifically in the research field of Artificial Intelligence. I have two more years left of undergrad and then I will be off. My focus now can be narrowed down to four things: working on research, finishing my major with excellent standing, growing a new student organization, and preparing/searching for grad school.
Hobbies/Interests
When it comes hobbies I can summarize in one word: music. When I was in sixth grade I started playing the piano, and haven’t stopped since. For most of my high school career my goal in life was to become a concert pianist. But no kid knows anything when they are in high school. Nevertheless, music will always be an important part of my life. I enjoy sitting down to the piano to work on a new piece or just compose my own. For the most part, I don’t listen to conventional music, but by no means unvaried. I will listen to traditional Irish, to classical piano, all the way to symphonic metal.
