Snow Storm, No Power, No Classes

Topics: College Advice

This past week was not a very good week.  Beginning Monday night the area was devastated by a snow and ice storm that lasted till Wednesday.  Classes have been canceled since Tuesday.  Tuesday night, the power went out, and we finally got it back Thursday evening.  The two days without power were long and cold, as it was below freezing outside.  The cold slowly crept into the house.   Today is Sunday and things are finally back to normal (at least at my house, there are still hundreds without power in the area).  While I could go on about my exciting days living in the cold, I actually just wanted to share some advice with you.

University Protocol Regarding Emergencies

Make sure you are aware of all of the emergency protocol at your university.  Make sure you know what to do in various weather and emergency situations.  Spending an hour reviewing your universities protocols could save you a lot of hassle and possibly save your life.

All schools have some sort of emergency notification system.  Make sure you are setup to be notified.  Make sure you get a notification by email and by phone.  (It’d be really cool if universities had a emergency Twitter account that sent a tweet whenever there was an emergency.)

Just make sure you take a glance at the information.   It never hurts to take a little precaution.
