Retiring From Lifehacking – RSS Reader Clean Out

Topics: Personal Development

Today, I decided to retire from LifeHacking. Actually, I could never retire from LifeHacking, because it has been engraved into my thinking process. But I am going to stop reading LifeHacking blogs.

I was introduced to productivity blogs about eight months ago. I have enjoyed every moment and it has been a life changing experience. But as of late, I find myself spending more time going through my RSS reader than actually doing things. So today I went through and unsubscribed from several of the productivity blogs.

LifeHacking was a College Course

Lifehacking is more like a college course than a lifelong hobby. I have spent over a semester learning all the ends and outs of personal productivity, and now it is time to take the new skill into the real world. The course is now over.

However, on occasion, I may need to go back and touch up on my productivity skills. In that case, I will just go to the websites and read a few articles. Instead of reading productivity articles ever day, I can just read them once a month.

I still subscribe to…

  • My fellow student bloggers, even if they write about lifehacking/productivity. Because I will always support my colleagues.

I can now focus on reading more important material such as blogs on economics and education. Interestingly, I now feel relieved. I guess that means Lifehacking was causing stress? Seems like an oxymoron.

I just realized that it was my productivity skills that ultimately brought me to do this. Is it the ultimate Lifehacking goal to eventually stop reading about LifeHacking?

I couldn’t agree more with your last statement. I used to write 7 blogs a day when I was trying to ‘be the expert’ in my career field that I am going into. Then I realized that I’m spending so much time writing and reading that I’m not actually getting the experience I need to ‘be the expert’.

Glad you found this out too.

    Regards,
    Tim

Certainly a productive move. I’m sure those bloggers would be sad to lose a subscriber, but proud to see you confidently move on (and save lots of time in the process).

    Good for you, Michael.
